Villagers ‘tormented’ by return of mosquitoes
There have been increasing reports in the media of nuisance biting by mosquitoes in Northern Ireland in recent years, centred around the village of Ballykelly.
Aidan Desjardins and Ryan Carmichael, both UKRI-funded PhD students at Queen’s, provide insights into the suspected nuisance species at hand, potential risks, and how we might manage them.
Speaking to BBC Radio Foyle’s North West Today programme, Aidan Desjardins from the research group said previous investigations in Ballykelly identified Culiseta annulata – also known as banded mosquitoes – as the likely source of the reported bites last year.
