Citizen Science
If you are in the north of Ireland and you think that you find a mosquito, please let us know! Please report it to us by taking a photo of it and filling in our online Reporting Form.

This will help us to fill in gaps in our mosquito data so we can get a broader picture of mosquito species in Northern Ireland and how they are distributed.
Your help is contributing to crucial knowledge about regional mosquito-borne disease risk and environmental change. We can use this information to make a map of where and when different mosquito species are found in the north of Ireland and identify any hotspots or changes over time.
We are interested in reports of adult mosquitoes and mosquito larvae that live in water. If you are not sure how to recognise adults and larvae, info can be found on our Mosquito Recognition page.
Please take a photo of the mosquito so that we can identify it, and upload it in the reporting form. You can find more information on our Photo Guidance page.
Other ways you can get involved
Please tell your family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues about the project and encourage them to look out for and report mosquitoes. You can also share this website and our Facebook. The more citizen scientists, the better!
- If you would like to display a MosquitoNI poster in your place of work or local community, please contact us.
- Reach out if you have any suggestions regarding community engagement. We would be very happy to give a talk or run a mosquito identification workshop.
- We are looking for citizen scientists of all ages. If you are a parent or teacher who would be interested in a mosquito educational session at your school, let us know!
